The Guide To A Rechargeable Hearing Aid

By Serena Price

A rechargeable hearing aid remains one of the devices that have seen revolution. The early versions of hearing aids were simply funnel-shaped cones that could collect sound energy and guide them into the ear. These were referred to as ear horns and trumpets. Today, this is one of the electroacoustic devices in the market. There are other similar devices such as cochlear implants and bone-anchored aids.

In their basic forms, they have component such as a microphone, circuitry, a receiver also called a speaker, a signal conditioning and a replaceable battery. The sound conversion of sound waves to electric signals takes place in microphone. The signals are conditioned and reconditioned through either amplification or equalization. The signals are then converted back to sound waves by the receiver.

There are several versions in market today, all designed to meet different tastes and preferences. The ones you would commonly find are the models placed in the ear, ones for the ear behind and those to be placed inside ear canal. Since the ones for ear behind require some custom fittings, they are a little more expensive.

The models for ear canal fitting on the other hands are meant to be invisible which requires placement deeper in the canal. As such, you expect custom fittings given that the size of canal varies by great margins from one person to the next. They are however comes with more natural sound experience, largely attributed to their venting and deeper location. You can find two types of the ear canal models. These are open fit model and extended wear model. The extended wear models, as the name suggests, are designed to stay in the canal for between one to three months. Open fit option fits behind the ear which gives and open air canal.

Unlike the disposable versions which become useless ones the power run out, the rechargeable hearing aid is a better alternative. The design therefore allows for removal and replacement of the battery. They are normally wireless and as such, programming and reprogramming can be achieved by a remote control for adjustment of settings.

Normally, the function is to contribute in hearing by convert sound to easily accessible forms that can be collected by an ear that has reception problems. The wearer therefore stands to gain from better sound reception and interpretation. Due to the need for battery replacement that calls for frequent removals, they are not designed to be placed deep inside the ear.

When it comes to prices, there is a very big variation. You can go through the ones available online and choose the one that match you budget and meet your preference.
