Marketing To Your Customers Through Email: A Guide

By Stavros Georgiadis

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to e-mail marketing is that too much contact is a bad thing. When running an email campaign, your message needs to stand out and be relevant. When you send people emails that they're interested in, they'll enjoy getting even more emails in the future. This article can help you build better e-mail marketing messages which your customers will wish to read.

Avoid bombarding your recipients with the "Buy now!" approach. This is not a very effective approach. This is a very repeatitive way to go about things and you may be considered a spammer and lose a lot of customers. They know you want to sell your products, so build a steady relationship with them first and present it and yourself in a professional manner. They will appreciate this a great deal and will be more likely to purchase from you.

Keep in mind that email marketing's ultimate goal is selling your products or services. Every email that is sent should entice the readers to want to buy a product or service. Share information on a brand new product, talk about how to use an older product or offer a special promotion.

Test email formats. The top of the emails should always contain the most interesting and important information. Yet be sure that you always try out different formats so that you know which ones you get the most responses from. Once you have a short list of successful formats, continue to use them. Your customers will be more comfortable with something that is useful and familiar to them.

You should avoid sending mass emails during holidays. People do not have time to check their emails as much since they are away from work and have limited access to their computers. This isn't a hard-and-fast rule, obviously. Black Friday, for example, is one occasion where a date relevant campaign is warranted.

Use a double opt-in procedure that will ensure that your subscribers really desire your emails. Although it is an extra step for your customer, you can be more confident that your customer is genuinely interested and it also reduces the risk of trouble with your email provider for spamming.

The more choices and options you provide to your customers will help to generate an effective e-mail marketing campaign. It is a good idea to allow subscribers to select the quantity of emails they will receive, along with the frequency at which these emails are sent. Any information provided by the subscriber should also be at their discretion. When your customers feel that they are somewhat in control of the process, they will be much more satisfied.

Make sure that your customers give you permission before sending them correspondences via email. Without permission, you run the risk of losing potential customers and being labeled a spammer. In addition, you could find yourself blacklisted by an ISP, which can be catastrophic for your business.

As mentioned earlier, the emails you send to your subscribers should always be interesting and engaging. The more spam your emails are, the quicker that your email base will be unsubscribing. Use this advice to create quality content for your messages that your customers can appreciate.
