Whether you are a first time blogger or a long time blogger, you have many things to learn. How to properly use WordPress is a necessity if you want to have an easy time with your blogging. Keep reading to learn some valuable tips that will help you get the most from WordPress.

Set a publishing time for your blog posts. When editing an article for publication, you can select when it will be published. It's a good idea to set regular updates for a specific date and time. To really stay on top of keeping your blog up to date, put your blog posts in ahead of time and let WordPress post them to your blog for you.

Use your footers wisely. People often scroll to the bottom of a page to find out who runs the site, how to contact the owner or to see how fresh the content is based on a copyright date. You can even include a short biography or other information you feel is pertinent.

Take some time to familiarize yourself with all the tools and options available to you when blogging with WordPress. For instance, the button "kitchen sink" gives you a plethora of choices for formatting and importing content into your posts. Also check out "screen options" for admin functions. Using this will help you better manage any formatting issues.

Get to know your Wordpress WYSIWYG editor. When you write a new post, you'll see a small bar that goes across the text input area. This is your WYSIWYG editor - meaning whatever you push will happen to whatever text you have highlighted. If you choose bold in the editor, the text you have chosen will become bold. It's similar to using Microsoft Word.

Sidebars are generally packed full of useless information. To help streamline them and only include information that your visitors want, navigate to Appearance & Widgets. Remove everything from your sidebar that does not get more people on your list, make visitors take an action or make you money. By paring down your sidebar, your WordPress site will become successful.

Know that you can write posts and send them in the future via WordPress. All you need to do is change the post from "Publish Immediately" to a specific date and time in the future. This way you can write posts and have them set up to go out even while you are on vacation!

Having a theme for your WordPress site can make it much more professional. There are plenty of websites that allow you to download themes for free. However, it is very important that you download themes from a trusted source. Not doing so can result in you installing outdated or malicious codes.

Don't use "admin" for your username. Bots are more likely to attack a blog that has "administrator" or "admin" as a username. It puts your site's security at risk. Eliminate admin type user names altogether. Use a different and unique username.

Regularly check your site and content. All your plugins and everything else you work with needs to be current. This will help ensure that your visitors have a seamless experience on your site. If you have trouble remembering to do this, consider setting your phone to alert you once a month to perform this task.

If you want to post on off-days, schedule them a few days before via WordPress. You can schedule them to auto-post any time you like, even if you're away from your computer. The option to publish now or later is available under the edit screen in WordPress. There, you will find "publish immediately." Use military time to input the times, days, months and years you want your content published. Approve the selection. When the "Schedule For" screen comes up, check it, and hit "Schedule" if it's correct.

While there is much to know about this blogging platform, WordPress is very user-friendly. This article has provided you with helpful tips and tricks for being able to do things the right way. Be sure you apply the information you've learned, and get ready to start using a great blogging platform.
